Enhancing Energy Statistics Skills with Fellow APEC Member Economies

The year 2018 marks the fifth year of the Expert Group on Energy Data Analysis (EGEDA) energy statistics training programme by the Asia Pacific Energy Research Centre (APERC). The course was organised in Tokyo, Japan, from 20 to 31 August 2018. The participants this year came from nine (9) Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) member economies; Brunei Darussalam, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. ASEAN Centre for Energy also sent a representative to attend this course, Mr. Visal Veng, Senior Energy Research Analyst.

The training agenda mainly focused on basic understanding of energy data; energy balances and APEC annual energy questionnaires with hands-on exercises. In addition, application of energy statistics in energy demand forecasting; energy consumption trend analysis; data estimation and validation as well as basic technical tools for energy analysis were highlighted.

Real lessons and experiences were comprehensively shared to the participants, especially on energy data collection; questionnaire templates; energy balance tables; energy data analysis and accuracy. The training was concluded with an emphasis to enhance participants’ energy statistics skills and use them in their respective economies and organisations. (VV. Featured photo credit: APERC)
