Regional Energy Policy and Planning Sub-sector Network Meeting: Enhancing Energy Collaborations in the Region

02 June 2016

The start of rainy season did not stop the delegates to enjoy Singapore city and participate in the Regional Energy Policy and Planning Sub-sector Network (REPP-SSN) Annual Meeting on 2 June 2016.  The one-day meeting was organised by Energy Market Authority (EMA) and ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE).  Apart from enhancing the collaboration with ASEAN’s dialogue partners and international organisations (DPs/IOs), the Meeting aimed to integrate the results of all ASEAN Sub-sector Networks’ (SSN) and Specialized Energy Bodies’ (SEB) Council Meetings. For that reason, each SSN and SEB reported the results of their Council Meetings, as well as the latest update on the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) Monitoring template.  DPs/IOs were also invited to present the updates on the status of collaborations, such as Australia, China, European Union, India, Japan, Russia, South Korea, and the USA.

Mr. Jonathan Goh, the Director of EMA and Dr. Sanjayan Velautham, the Executive Director of ACE, welcomed all the delegates to the Meeting. They hoped the meeting would facilitate a better discussion as a preparation for the upcoming Senior Officials Meeting on Energy (SOME) in July 2016, as well as help enhance ACE and the ASEAN Member States’ (AMS) performance in implementing the APAEC programme areas.

Participants of the Meeting were representatives from the Energy and Industry Department, Prime Minister’s Office of Brunei Darussalam; Ministry of Mines and Energy of Cambodia; Ministry of Energy and Mines of Lao PDR; Ministry of Green Technology and Water Malaysia; Department of Mineral Fuels of the Ministry of Energy of Thailand; General Directorate of Energy, Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam; and ASEAN Council on Petroleum (ASCOPE). Also present were the Secretary General of the National Energy Council of Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of Indonesia and the Secretary in-charge of Heads of ASEAN Power Utilities/Authorities (HAPUA).
