Strengthening ASEAN+3 Cooperation for Energy Security

The 4th Oil Stock Piling Roadmap (OSRM) and the 13th Energy Security Forum (ESF) were organised in Vientiane on 20-21 June 2016. The meetings were jointly organised by ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) and Ministry of Energy and Mines of Lao PDR. It aimed to strengthen the cooperation between the ASEAN Member States (AMS) and the three countries (ASEAN+3: ASEAN + China, Japan and Korea).

In the opening session, Dr. Daovong Phonekeo, the SOE Leader of Lao PDR said that his country always notes a great importance to strengthen the cooperation with ASEAN+3. The ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) as the Co-Secretariat stated that the meeting provides a good platform for the AMS to gain information and share experiences on recent situation in oil and gas industry.

The key outcomes during the OSRM workshop were the steps forward in oil stock piling study, current status of OSRM in ASEAN+3 countries, and Japan’s initiative on establishment of a functional network. Meanwhile, during The Energy Security Forum, the forum gathered the perspectives of all participants on energy security in oil and gas, coal and nuclear. (SBS)
