Independent Power Producers

In 2000, the generating capacity of IPPs in Java is about 2,975 MW, consisting of 2,450 MW steam coal power plant, 345 MW geothermal power plant, and 180 MW hydro power plant.

IPPs in outer islands are operating only in South Sulawesi with  capacity of 135 MW combined cycle and 60 MW diesel power. Due to economic crisis, the prevailing commercial arrangements for the sale of electricity to PLN has become not profitable for the IPPs.

The government of Indonesia will continue to involve the private sector in power development.
