Background

PRESSEA (Promotion of renewable Energy Sources in Southeast Asia) was a joint collaboration project between ASEAN and the EU. It was financed through EAEF and was completed in 2002. Since the creation, its website served as focal point to collect and disseminate information that is of significant importance to the public and private sector involved in renewable energy in Southeast Asia and the European Union.

However, there is a need to update of information, change its structure and links to new environment and sources. In May 2003 during the NRSE-SSN annual meeting, the country focal points identified the above limiting aspects and voiced their future priority actions as including :

1) enhancing the PRESSEA website to include Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar;
2) further strengthening the information networking in NRE
3) increase international cooperation on NRE
4) update compilation of existing specification and standards
5) conduct dialogues and consultation workshops to develop a policy and institutional framework for the development of NRE

With these recommendation, a project title “Information for Commercialization of Renewables in ASEAN – ICRA” has been approved. ICRA proposes therefore to address all of the above aspects and in addition to expand on the information available to include:

• Case studies of RE implementation in the region as possible
• Regulatory frameworks of the countries
• Links to European Associations and RE Industry
• Key policy aspects pertaining to:
• PV Standards / harmonization
• Policies for RE mainstreaming
• Biomass for electrification
• Carbon credits

This brief note presents the analysis of actual PRESSEA website structure and proposed new structure, based on new objectives and discussion with all partners of the project ICRA.
