Training to Calculate Energy Performance Contracting for ESCOs

21 January 2016

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH Thailand under Thai-German Programme on Energy Efficiency Development Plan (TGP-EEDP), organised a training on Investment-grade Calculation, Analysis & Financing of Energy Projects (Bangkok, Thailand, 19 – 21 January). Facilitators were experts from a consulting firm in Germany, Energetic Solutions, and a senior officer from GIZ Germany. Most of the participants were engineers and officers from local energy service companies (ESCOs).  The rest were representatives from other GIZ offices.  The ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) participated in this opportunity through ACE’s representative from the Renewable Energy Support Programme for ASEAN (ASEAN-RESP), a joint cooperation between ACE and GIZ Indonesia . The training was part of TGP-EEDP’s seven core activities, focusing on supporting and enhancing the business of ESCOs in Thailand.

Two specific objectives of the training were to create knowledge on the basics of dynamic calculations for complex ESCO projects, as well as to build participants’ capacity in performing life-cycle cost calculations. The participants learned to use a comprehensive ESCO calculation tool, which was developed by Energetic Solutions. The tool’s main objective is to calculate and to model energy performance contracting (EPC) projects. The participants explored the tool by exercising diverse case studies from their own projects. Detailed information about ESCOs’ business was also delivered by two local financial institutions and Thailand’s Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency (DEDE) in the end of training session (YIS).
