ASEAN-German Mini Hydro Program (AGMHP)

Exploitation of the vast hydropower potential in South-East Asia is still relatively small. At the same time the region’s rapid economic growth requires an increased energy supply. To meet this demand, AGMHP aims at promoting the utilization of mini hydropower (MHP) as an environmentally friendly and economically beneficial option particularly for rural electrification.

AGMHP is a capacity building cooperation project between the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) and the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) on behalf of the German Government.

AGMHP’s objective is to improve the preconditions for sustainable utilization of mini-hydropower sources. Proven dissemination concepts developed with GTZ’s support for MHP in Indonesia shall be applied in the ASEAN countries Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. AGMHP will thereby enhance the capacity for local provision of MHP-equipment, sustainable MHP planning & implementation, operation & management and income generating end-use activities.
