Kuala Lumpur, 20 October 2025 – The 5th ASEAN International Conference on Energy and Environment (AICEE) was successfully held on 15 October, alongside the 25th ASEAN Energy Business Forum (AEBF-25) and 43rd ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM) in Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), Malaysia.Hosted by the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) Malaysia and organised by the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE), the 5th AICEE serves as a key platform to bring together researchers and policymakers with government and industries.
Aligned with Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship, the 5th AICEE theme is “Sustainable Energy for ASEAN’s Prosperity: Innovation, Inclusivity, and Regional Cooperation”. The conference comes as a pivotal time as ASEAN endorses the new cycle of the region’s energy blueprint—the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) 2026-2030—spotlighting research and innovation to accelerate the shift to a sustainable and resilient energy future. The findings of the 5th AICEE will give inputs and guidance to implement the next APAEC.The conference garnered over 500 abstract submissions under six (6) topics:
- Low Carbon and Emerging Technologies: Addresses the concern of transforming fossil fuels sustainability through advancing a diverse array of low-carbon technologies and renewable.
- Energy Efficiency Technologies: Discusses energy management that plays a crucial role in optimizing energy systems and shaping regulatory frameworks that promote energy-efficient solutions.
- Regional Energy Cooperation and Interconnection: Emphasises the need to strengthen cross-sectoral regional energy cooperation for a secure, accessible, and interconnected ASEAN energy system.
- Just and Inclusive Energy Transition: Highlights advancing an equitable energy transition through inclusive policies, governance, and socio-economic opportunities.
- Energy, Environment, and Climate Policy: Highlight the need and efforts in driving sustainable energy policies for emissions reduction, environmental protection, and climate resilience.
- Energy Investment: Focuses on accelerating green investment and carbon pricing for a low-carbon future.
Dr Zulfikar Yurnaidi, Conference Head of the 5th AICEE and the Manager of Energy Modelling and Policy Planning (MPP) Department at ACE, expressed his enthusiasm for the conference: “As the region endorses the new APAEC 2026-2030, the 5th AICEE will serve as a platform to bridge gap between academia, policymakers, and businesses. We are delighted to see more than 500 abstract submissions, reflecting the region’s growing commitment to research innovation, and collocation in advancing sustainable energy solutions for ASEAN’s future.”

** About the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE)The ASEAN Centre for Energy (“ACE” or the “Centre”) is an intergovernmental organisation driving multilateral energy cooperation and policy coordination among the ASEAN Member States. The Agreement on ASEAN Energy Cooperation in Manila, Philippines, on 22 May 1998, formally established ACE on 1 January 1999 in Jakarta, Indonesia. The formal establishment tasked ACE to serve as the regional energy think tank, catalyst, and knowledge hub to build coherent, coordinated, focused and robust energy policy agenda and strategy for ASEAN.The three critical roles of ACE:
- To advance the ASEAN energy goals by unifying and strengthening the ASEAN energy cooperation and integration.
- To function as an energy data and knowledge hub by providing knowledge repository and services.
- To serve as an ASEAN energy think tank by assisting in research and practical solutions for the Member States.
Keeping the region’s improvement, sustainable and harmless to the ecosystem is a fundamental concern of the ASEAN energy sector.
