Summary
This report outlines the role of cleantech innovation and entrepreneurship in addressing climate change and advancing the clean energy transition towards a sustainable economy. It highlights that while environmental awareness and cleantech deployment are growing, meaningful climate impact depends on successful commercialisation and scaling, which require a supportive ecosystem rather than isolated entrepreneurial efforts.
Drawing on the Cleantech Innovation and Entrepreneurship Ecosystem (CIEE) framework developed by Xie et al. (2019), the report examines the network of stakeholders, interactions, and social, economic, and policy environments that shape the development and commercialisation of cleantech solutions in developing countries. With a specific focus on the ASEAN context, the report underscores the importance of coordinated action among government, private sector, academia, and investors to overcome systemic barriers, strengthen regional capacities, and support a low-carbon transition aligned with ASEAN’s sustainable development and energy cooperation objectives.
